Garden of the Gods Park is a part of the Colorado Birding Trail assuring a good location for a wide variety of birds. A crossroads of six different ecosystems helps bring a diversity of possible sightings. We will follow the Gateway Trail to the Central Garden Trail looping back through the Dakota Trail. Optics recommended and binoculars available to borrow.

Some possible sightings may include: Woodhouse’s scrub jay, spotted towhee, bushtits, prairie falcons, canyon wrens, magpies, ravens, red-tail hawks, Townsend’s solitaire and many more. All experience levels welcome!

The main galleries will be open from 11-3 with offerings from local artisans ranging from pickles and sourdough bread to orchids, cactus, and more--there is a little something for everyone.

At 11:00 am, join Master Gardener Barb Valenti in the back gallery to explore the ins and outs of soil health – how to test it, when to use different amendments, and how to develop and maintain a healthy soil microbiome. The best way to grow a healthy, happy garden is to develop happy, healthy dirt.

Bats are regular visitors to the park, and they like the same cracks and crevices that climbers do. However, biologists have a poor understanding of bat ecology along cliffs. Please join us for this talk/discussion on how climbers contribute to bat conservation and scientific research with bat biologist and Climbers for Bat Conservation Director Rob Schorr.

If the weather is nice, the talk will include a walk into the park to listen for bats.

All adults are invited to step into the great outdoors for a weekend dedicated to learning, connecting, and growing. Take part in certification trainings to strengthen your outdoor leadership skills, or simply unwind and engage with fellow camp enthusiasts. With overnight and day-only options, this event offers the perfect chance to step up, relax, and leave with new knowledge, new friends, and a renewed sense of purpose for all adults! Whether you're building confidence, expanding your expertise, or simply looking to learn something new, the outdoor and wilderness learning series is for you! This event is open to all adults, volunteer or nonmember, so bring your friends!

About Sky High  Ranch
Located in a forested, rustic setting one hour northwest of Colorado Springs, Sky High Ranch is Girl Scouts' home away from home in the Pike National Forest. While camp buildings are heated, guests should dress and come prepared for possibly chilly mountain weather at this high-altitude property! While we can make some accommodations for mobility concerns, automobile use is limited at camp - please come prepared for walking around camp. A detailed packing list and maps will be sent to participants before the event. All restroom facilities are vault toilets.

Overnight guests must bring their own linens, either a sleeping bag or twin-sized bedroll, and pillows.

Meals

All participants will be provided lunch on the days they are registered to attend courses.
Friday overnight guests should plan to eat dinner before arrival.
Saturday overnight guests will be provided dinner.
All overnight guests will be provided breakfast the following morning(s).

We will do our best to honor all dietary restrictions and allergies. Please be sure to provide us with this information during registration.

Lodging
Overnight stays will cost participants an additional $40 per night. This cost includes meals noted above.

Courses offered at Sky High Ranch OWLS Weekend include:

Adult Archery Training: Become certified to lead beginner Archery programs. USA Archery Level 1 Instructor certification.

Fun Facilitator: Learn the camp facilitator ropes with hands-on training in leading songs, games, traditions, and inclusive outdoor experiences that make Girl Scouting unforgettable.

Happy Camper: This no-training, no-pressure experience is all about being a kid again. Come play, relax, connect, and enjoying camp for the sheer fun of it.

Wilderness and Remote First Aid: Become certified in Wilderness and Remote First Aid for remote outdoor adventures.

Youth Mental Health First Aid: Designed for both volunteers and caregivers, Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches practical tools for supporting mental wellness and responding to youth in crisis.

American Red Cross First Aid/AED/CPR: Become certified in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR and AED use.

Kitchen Crew: Learn how to use an industrial kitchen, prep and cook meals for large groups, and learn the foundations of food safety as part of our Kitchen Crew - earn your ServSafe Food Handler's Certification!

Financial Aid is available for members only.

Join the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society as they embark on a tour of the night sky!

Colorado Springs Astronomical Society (CSASTRO) members will have telescopes set up for public viewing at the Limekiln Trailhead on the East end of the parking lot. Come see and learn about some of the celestial sights in our night sky including colorful stars, multiple star systems, star clusters, nebula, stellar nurseries, galaxies and more.

Views are dependent upon weather conditions. All cancellations or changes will be communicated via social media.

This event is free and open to the public. No registration required. However, by signing up here you will receive reminder emails, as well as information regarding cancellations if they happen. A valid park pass is required for every vehicle that enters the park.

Audience: Everyone is welcome!

The park will be closed to all automotive vehicles during this extended time. The main roads will be utilized by hikers, bikers, skateboarders, roller skaters, and more.

During Motorless Morning, park rules and regulations, including speed limits, apply; however, skateboards and longboards are welcome on park roads. There will also be designated slow zones and one-way traffic.
Visitors can park their vehicles at the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center (1805 30th Street), Garden of the Gods Trading Post (324 Beckers Lane, Manitou Springs), or in the overflow parking lot at Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site (corner of 30th Street and Gateway Road).

Designated parking for persons with disabilities is available in the overflow lot. An accessible vehicle into the main parking lot will be available in the overflow lot upon request on Motorless Morning for those guests who need it.

Have you ever wondered what makes falcons the fastest animals in the world? Can owls really turn their head all the way around?

Birds of prey have fascinated humans for thousands of years and have been important symbols (both positive and negative) in cultures throughout the world. This program on raptors in Colorado will introduce participants to these fascinating animals by discussing their unique adaptations, their individual hunting strategies, and their conservation challenges.

This program will take place on the second floor of the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center. Please note that there are no live animals in this program.

This 4-mile casual run/walk winds through the Zoo and up to Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun, with leopards, lions and elephants along the way. Enjoy stunning views of Colorado Springs below while ascending nearly 1,000 feet in elevation, before descending back down into the Zoo. Run to the Shrine is the ONLY time foot traffic is allowed on Shrine Road. Participants will start the ascent at their leisure, and there will be no official timing services.

The race is a great route for competitive athletes, weekend warriors, casual walkers and families of all ages.

Are you smarter than a crow? Is your memory better than a blue jay? Come find out in this family-friendly program exploring the fascinating corvids of Colorado. Participants will have the chance to learn about the many corvids that live in the Garden and compete against them in problem solving competitions. This indoor program meets in the Red Rock Room on the second floor. Please note there are no live animals in this program.

Wildflowers in the park can come in many different varieties and colors. Join us for this guided wildflower walk to see and learn more about our local flowers. The walk will follow the Gateway Trail from the dirt parking lot at the park's main entrance. There may be some time spent on the Foothills or Bretag Trails as well. Distance is about 1-1.5 miles total along mostly paved trails with some shorter time on dirt trails possible. Weather dependent.
