Aligning Land Managers for America’s Mountain
Sustainable management of the Ring the Peak corridor and broader Pikes Peak massif requires unprecedented collaboration among federal, state, and local land managers. After evaluating 16 management models, partners identified a collaborative approach with Colorado Parks and Wildlife playing a central coordinating role—generating revenue through managed camping to sustain operations.
Peak Exceptionalism provides modest support for ongoing facilitation, one-on-one conversations, Land Manager Summits, and advocacy.
An MOU is awaiting endorsement from all parties. Discussions with the 911 Authority are affecting timelines for Rosemont and Y Campgrounds. Tribes have been notified. A land-manager meeting was held July 20 to address concerns. Conversations are expanding to the full Pikes Peak massif. Related milestones include the hiring of a CPW Pikes Peak Recreation Area Park Manager and the MOU between CPW and eight land managers.
This collaborative framework is foundational to the long-term success of Ring the Peak, camping expansion, and coordinated recreation management across the region.
