Avenger Open Space is a fresh breath of outdoor opportunity for Woodland Park and the surrounding Front Range foothills. Thanks to funding from Great Outdoors Colorado, or GOCO, the space now offers residents and visitors a convenient place to hike, explore, and connect with nature right in their backyard. For a community like Woodland Park, which sits at the gateway to the Rockies, having accessible trails and protected land strengthens both quality of life and local identity. It also plays a key role in the larger Ring the Peak vision. This ambitious trail project aims to link Teller, El Paso, and Fremont counties through a continuous loop of connected paths around Pikes Peak. Avenger Open Space serves as an important link in that chain, helping stitch together regional trail systems and making it easier for people to travel between communities on foot or by bike. By protecting this land and opening it to the public, Woodland Park isn’t just gaining a park. It’s investing in a connected outdoor future that benefits the entire Pikes Peak region.
