Arkansas River – Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area Visitor Center
The Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA) is recognized as one of the nation’s most popular locations for whitewater rafting and kayaking. Access by parks pass at the Valco Ponds parking lot, this is the home of an amazing winter tailwater fishery and great urban fly-fishing destination.

This river through Canon City has been greatly enhanced for a better trout habitat. Hiking and biking trails parallel the river.

Public access above the Vallie Bridge state park site. From Howard down through Coaldale, this offers excellent fishing and mountain views.

Boat ramp and parking on the north side of Texas Creek. Upper 5 miles are mostly gentle water; rapids increase with movement downstream.

Section runs along highway 50 on the southside of the river and railroad on the northside. Section is public and clearly marked.

South Platte – Below Spinney Reservoir/ “Dream Stream”
Known to most anglers as the “Dream Stream”, this tailwater doesn’t have many holds over fish and is subject to inclement weather. Campgrounds available along Elevenmile.
South Platte – Cheesman Canyon
A half hour hike from Gill trailhead, Cheesman Canyon is one of the most technical and rewarding tailwater fisheries in Colorado.
South Platte – Above Spinney Reservoir
Parking along County Rd. 59 with limited access to restrooms and camping. Flies and lures only. Habitat stamp required to fish.

The summer months are great for anglers throwing streamers and big dry flies. A great winter spot as well because it is tailwater.
South Platte – Elevenmile Canyon
Elevenmile Canyon is home to unparalleled beauty and a great source of beautiful trout. Rock climbing, biking, and camping available. Parks pass required.
South Platte – Middle Fork – Tomahawk
Tomahawk is the middle fork of the South Platte River. This stretch of the river is a great place to find solitude from the crowds.
South Platte – North Fork – Bailey
One hour from Denver and accessible from US 285, the North Fork of the South Platte River is a great spot for plenty of trout.
South Platte – North Fork – Pine
Some public waters can be found in Pine Valley Open Space, just south of Pine Junction.
South Platte – South Fork – Below Antero Reservoir
This area is a work in progress. The drought left this area with little water, but recently the DOW has been stocking this area.
South Platte – Wildcat Canyon
Wildcat Canyon is a beautiful section of the South Platte River, but access is tricky with hiking in required. Camping is allowed along the river.
