South Platte – Wildcat Canyon

Wildcat Canyon is a beautiful section of the South Platte River, but access is a little bit tricky. If you have friends at the private Sportsmans Paradise, you can ask to be their guest, get their gate code, and drive through to the entrance gate of the canyon. Otherwise, you’ll need to take a hike, literally, for a couple of miles. Wildcat Canyon starts fairly open, waterwise, with plenty of willows on the banks. Then tightens up with large boulders. Fish are generally in pocket water, behind boulders, and in runs and pools. Camping is allowed along the river.
